Each month ASI features a Project Spotlight inspired by what’s happening in that moment of time. And coming off the opening last week of the blockbuster exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in NYC, Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination we chose a liturgical theme. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Las Vegas designed by LGA Inc. allows us to highlight how devotional practice and traditions of Catholicism are paramount in this refreshed and updated multipurpose house of worship.
Established by his Holiness Pope John Paul II in 1995, this church services the needs of the Catholic Community of Southern Nevada. LGA had master-planned the entire site for future development and the first phase involved the renovation of the Catholic Center which is the office building for the Diocese of Las Vegas and the Parish of the Guardian Angel Cathedral.
Michelle Rimler, IIDA of LGA Inc., explains “a special intent to make the conference room for the Bishop of LV modern, professional but also reverent informed our selections for a natural yet impactful focal wall. Mother of Pearl Mosaics and Cast Stone Dimensional Panels added the textured and layered effect that gave a symbolic honor to a religious statue and a contemporary space to hold meetings and community activities.”
The Interweaving of fashion and Catholicism is a visual splendor at the Metropolitan Museum. The holy art of the past is displayed majestically as is in the new home of St. Anthony of Padua Parish, the chapel that connects to the administrative spaces. Catholicism imagery in design is showcased here from two intersecting disciplines.
Without being sacrilegious ASI had some favorite fashion picks from the Met Gala: Angels, Madonna’s, Priests and more!
