Cultural Sensibility – the Hot Topic at HD Expo

It’s an exciting time for hospitality. Architectural Systems debuted eight new products at HD Expo last week and Materialista®, ever with an ear to the ground, picked up on a positive cultural shift in the industry.

The designers we spoke to are truly inspired by their projects, and properties at all levels are refreshing their brands – from two-star hotels to the Waldorf Astoria. We were happy to see and reconnect with industry friends — some who have landed in new positions — and we are excited to collaborate again!

WNL2Our highlight of the show was a ten minute trend talk called WHAT’S NEXT® Live, hosted at our booth. The second in an interview series, Nancy Jackson, president, Architectural Systems, interviewed David Ashen, principal, D-ash Design, whose work is known for context and reinvention. Our readers will recall the first WHAT’S NEXT® Live took place during GlobalShop earlier this year.

David and Nancy used ASI’s award-winning interior finishes to illustrate the top trends impacting hospitality:

 - Juxtaposition of rough and refined

 - Cultural sensibility

 - Material authenticity

 - Overall result: feeling of escapism and wow factor!

David put it best when describing the power of materials:

“Texture, interest and discovery; that’s what you do with materials,” said Ashen.

Over the years, ASI has had the privilege to collaborate with D-ash globally on projects like Baronette Renaissance Hotel in Novi, MI and the Godiva store in Istanbul.

If you weren’t at the show, you can still experience the range of innovative, new products by visiting the virtual gallery-like booth. Check out: InterMix® (featured in the HD Expo Show Daily), Interwoven Eco-Panels, Woven Vinyl Flooring, Evolution Acoustic Panel System, ASI Porcelain Wood Grains and reclaimed Cask + Ports Hardwoods.

At the Platinum Circle Awards, we congratulated industry legends and design partners Richard Brayton and Stanford Hughes, and Andi Pepper and Stephen B. Jacobs. And we were proud to see IIDA receive its Visionary Award as Architectural Systems is deeply involved in IIDA NY, co-chairing the Hospitality Forum event each year.
