What's Now: Summer (Materials) Lovin’

Boy has this summer been hot!  Luckily, there are so many fun ways to keep cool this summer - the beach, staying inside, or a refreshing treat  One of the best ways to beat the heat is with the help of cold frozen yogurt.

Fortunately, one of the many projects ASI worked on recently is Swirls and Twirls, a new do-it-yourself frozen yogurt shop in Massapequa Park, Long Island, designed by Patrice Auerbach Interiors Ltd. My go-to order is vanilla with graham cracker crumbs and strawberries… yum! And with 16 flavors and 40 toppings to choose from, you’ll never run out of tasty combinations!  And there’s also no reason to feel guilty about indulging – the company gives part of its proceeds to The CASK (Creative Art Space for Kids) Foundation.

The décor of the shop is a breath of fresh air itself. The alternating panels of our Perla™ Collection in white and turquoise give the counter face a bold, distinct look reminiscent of sea and sand, while the gold lacquered Sculptured™ panels behind the counter mimic the swirling mounds of yogurt being served up daily.

Another fun way to escape the brutal city heat is shopping at any number of NYC’s great department stores.  Not only can you find a great outfit for the beach, but department stores have some of the best A/C around! Recently, our sales team got the chance to check out the newly renovated Lord & Taylor for the Retail Design Institute’s monthly networking event, “Oh my Lord & Taylor” (cute, huh?).

Rachel Cooper, VP of Sales; Andrew Cooper, VP of National Accounts, Architectural Systems

Dominick Ponti, Sr. VP of Design, Construction & Facilities for Lord & Taylor, discussed the challenge of creating a modern retail experience while respecting the original aesthetic of one of New York’s historical buildings. He definitely succeeded in his goal.  The new look was modern, yet sophisticated.  I particularly liked the black Porcelain on the cosmetics floor; it felt like a fresh, yet classic touch that really pulled the whole floor together.

Getting out of the city and heading to the beach for a weekend is always a great way to cool down. While I'm excited for a family trip to Sag Harbor in The Hamptons, I’m really hoping to make it down to Miami for some much needed R&R and see the Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel renovation!

The fitness center, now complete with ASI Textured Vinyl Flooring in soft beige, has state-of-the-art equipment, and the treatment rooms of the hotel’s Elle Spa feature Wood Vinyl Flooring for a natural, Zen vibe.  I’d also make sure to pop into the spa’s retail boutique to check out the White Oak European Hardwood flooring and pick up their exclusive Essie nail polishes, Eden and Roc.

Phew… after all of that writing, I’m exhausted.  I think I’ll go take a dip in the pool at the new Dream Downtown Hotel in Chelsea.  Make sure to check back next week to read all about the new hot spot!
