United States Tennis Association, White Plains, NY

Established in 1881, the USTA is a progressive and diverse not-for-profit association, which is the largest tennis organization in the world (with 17 geographical sections, more than 700,000 individual members and 7,000 organizational members). The USTA invests 100 percent of its proceeds to promote and develop the growth of tennis, from the grass-roots to the professional levels. So how to convey that mission in the redesign of headquarters’ lobby? We worked with Esposito Design Associates on just that task. Here’s what Lesley May, Associate Designer, had to say about the experience:

The original lobby for the USTA’s Headquarters was dark and dreary and didn’t reflect the organization’s mission to promote tennis at the professional and community levels. EDA’s task was to create a brighter, more inviting space with a rich, warm feel. We liked the look and durability of a stone floor, but a natural stone didn’t fit the budget. We also had a very tight construction window, so we needed to find something fast. We discovered the absolute perfect porcelain tile through ASI and couldn’t have been happier when we found out that the material is stocked locally and could be on the job site quickly. Rachel Cooper, VP of Sales, was fabulous to work with and the client is thrilled with the end result.
